Didn't complete a sorn declaration. Pay the £80 fine or go to court?

This is for the UK people its to do with car road tax. I was recently fined £40 for not completing the sorn form, I failed to pay within 14 days(i think it was 14) so now they want me to pay £80, I,m not happy, What do you suggest. PS I,m on a low income so maybe the court would be sympathetic.

Answers:
They only want your money so cough up the £80 or they will have to release a rapist to make room for you in prison.
hahaha your having a bubble there honest save the heartbreak and pay the 80 quid!
Pay the £80 for if you go to court you will still have to pay the £80 and court costs on top..
send a cheque for £40 and tell them it was late in the post
pay the £80 or it will cost you more.
How can you afford to run a car if your on a low income, The courts might let you pay fine in installments.
Pay the £80 and learn by your mistake. Going to court could cost you more.
Pay as quick as you can, the costs are only going to get higher otherwise.

Court costs aren't cheap and they won't go easy on you as you had plenty of notice that your tax was about to run out plus they gave you an additional 14 days to pay the reduced fine and I presume you didn't contact them and let them know you may have trouble paying in time.
The court could be rather unsympathetic, and take the view along with the DVLA, that if you haven't declared sorn, you may be liable for the road tax, and if you haven't paid that, it could fine you up to £4000 ( which i beleive is the current fine for failure to pay vehicle excise duty), and also add points to your licence.

I'd pay the £80 and leave it at that.
you got to pay up or it will just be a bigger fine when the baliffs knock for you
