Roary69 *The original one*, your answer is not fool proof. I have a 16v Mazda 323 1.6 SOHC, so only one cam cover.
However, the 1.2 16V Punto is a DOHC engine, so it should have two cam covers or a single large one to cover both. Look at the spark plugs, the things with thick black cables going to them. If the are in the centre, it's a DOHC engine. On a single cam engine, the plugs will typically be in front of the cam cover.
Typical twin cam cover here, oil filler is at top right and you can see the four holes in the centre where the spark plugs go:

Single cam, plug holes at front, note the single camshaft sprocket on right:

Here, note again the width of the twin cam cover, also the black plastic cover in front of oil cap, this covers the cam belt. Due to there being two cam sprockets, its quite wide. A single cam engine would have a much narrower cover as it only covers one sprocket.

The 16V 1.2 Punto has hydraulic valves, the 8V doesn't, so if there is a label/sticker saying hydraulic valves, you know what you have.

all i can say is ring dvla they might be able to help u x
Forgive me if this sounds condesending it isnt meant to be, im assuming you dont have a lot of technical knowledge so.. when you open the bonnet and look at the engine there is a rectangular metal box with a cap in it where you fill up the oil level. This is known as the cam cover or rocker box top (they both mean the same). If there is only one such box then it is an 8 valve engine, if there is 2 (only one will have the oil filler cap) then it is a 16v engine as a 16 valve engine requires 2 sets of valves, 2 camshafts etc, this is the easiest way to tell
