Why aren’t the Police enforcing the “Mobile Phone Use Whilst Driving” law?

Is it just me or are others outraged by this illegal driving behaviour?
How can this law be enforced?

Answers:
In the new Road Traffic Act currently before Parliament it will be an endorsable offence to use a mobile phone whilst driving. The Act is due to be on the statue books by the end of October and will result in the driver being given a £60 fixed penalty ticket as well as 3 points on their licence. It is also worth mentioning that holders of vocational licences, HGV & PCV, will have them suspended by the Traffic Commissioner for up to a month if caught using a mobile phone, as well as collecting the points
I guess they assume that have more important things to do
because it is a stupid law and even the police realize this.
coz they are stupid. its the most dangerous thing someone can do while driving (apart frm sleeping or eating) but more should be done to make sure these rules r put into place. forget the silly congestion charge, enforce more rules to do with 'phone driving'
I think you'll find that this law is being enforced. In fact, on the day that this law came into effect - the first three people who were arrested for this offence made news headlines the following day. It's harder to enforce than people think, because one person might just be on their phone for a minute or so, and if they're not picked up by any cameras, then they've temporarily beaten the system. But hey - offences go unnoticed every single day - that doesn't mean it's fair of you to say that the police aren't enforcing this law.
because they think that drivers' incompetence isn't important. the only way it could really be enforced is with some form of camera/officer on most stretches of road. which of course costs money.
i'm so glad it's not just me who's narked off by this - whenever i see them i'm like "what are you doing, you f*cking idiots?!". i dont know why it isn't taken more seriously, it's a real danger to other motorists
Here in Indiana, it never became law.
because the police are to occupied on their cell phones
Because it would involve effort by them
Simple. Instant impounding of the perpetrator's vehicle for a period of 30 days.

And yes, I'm fecking sick of people not paying attention because they are on the phone. Especially because I don't fancy my chances, me & my bike versus some urban arzole in a 4WD who is busy discussing the finer points of their buttcrack.
.and the cycling on pavement law, and the litter law.
Because it is very difficult to drive, watch other motorists, and talk on your own cell phone at the same time.

Enforcement will require check and ride pods at every highway on/off ramp. There you check your Cell Phone, like with a hat check girl, and drive merrily on your way.
Enroute home, you stop at the check and ride pod and retireve your cell phone.
my sisters ex is a policeman and he says that all they can really do is enforce a £30 fine if they catch anyone doing it.
Police officers are too busy stopping people from doing anything that isn't politically correct so they don't have the time or the manpower to enforce anything that is a danger to other people.

It is basically a law that can't be enforced because nobody really cares . and even if someone is killed, there'll only be a hue and cry for a couple of days then everything will slowly go back to normal (whatever normal is)
Its only a crime when a person is caught in the act! Otherwise, the police just get on with other more important issues.

I see loads of people driving past talking on their mobiles and that really infuriates me!!

Its a safety problem that Mobile phone companies need to think about for future models and not on big salaries!!
There's worse things happening, what do you want them to do? Put a policeman on every car user?

The best bet would be to increase the fines and place a ban if caught, to really deter people.
It depends on the cop. If he has nothing better to do then pull you over then he will write you a ticket for it.
just got to ask one of your other repliers.nina why is it a stupid law u moron?.its potentially lethal and in fact has been, people texting on their phones too!!i dont think its being enforced either u only have to go for a 30minute drive and you'll see 6 or 7 instances, and if we see it the police must pass them too.
I don't see why it's illegal to have talk on the pohone whilst driving and yet, you can still smoke. Surely having a lit cigarette in a car could be more dangerous.
they will if they see it.
