Is there a quick, temporary fix for the Fiat Punto front window wiper problem?

I have a 2003 Fiat Punto. My driver’s side wiper has stopped working as the ball and socket joint which connects it to the motor has worn down and fallen off - a common problem I’m told. I know that I have to get the whole motor changed, and I am doing so in 9 days. But do you have any tips to make sure it holds together in the short term?

Conor B's answer is good, we use this on Rover 800s where it's also a common problem.

Another method which is easier for non mechanic types is to rip up a plastic bag, Asda seems to be preferred choice, then wrap the ball with some of the plastic and force it back into the socket.

Best permanent solution is to replace the ball and socket joint with a rose joint.

As you're looking for a temporary solution, go for the plastic bag.

You could also consider using Rain-X, then you won't need the wipers.
stay in when it rains
BRUM
superglue (a big tin)
sit the worn socket back on to the ball.
get a drill and a small 4mm or so bit and drill straight through the socket and into the ball - just start the hole on the ball then remove the socket and continue drilling into the ball until you are about half way through. ten pop the socket back on and find a self tapping screw with a very coarse thread - a wood screw is good and screw it in as tight as you can get it - should hold for the few days - i did it on the escort i`m driving two weeks ago and is still holding!
