I'm thinking of remapping my VW Bora 1.9 TDI PD 115 (6) to 168 bhp. Will this affact the MPG or engine/gearbox
Answers:
it will probably blow up the engine
it will definitely affect the MPG as the only way it makes more power is to burn more fuel.
the engine and gearbox will also have a reduced lifespan though probably not to bad.
Of course it will, you dont get something for nothing, I had an Audi A4 that was 130 as standard, chipped it to 150 and it was a nightmare to drive, power came in with a bang and lost most of the low down torque. Fuels bills went from 45 mpg to 30, bad move
if its remapped by a good tuner (jabbasport.co.uk) you will have no problems. you will be suprised at the MPG as mine rose by an average of 8mpg!! ive got the Fabi VRS 130 remapped to 187.
i would highly recommend it as it will transform you car!
I dont know, but you can talk to the 'pimp my ride' crew you could come up with a fabulous model than the one you're having on your mind.
you will wear out your clutch much faster due to the higher torque/power and ther are about 80% chances you will blow up your turbine (this a well known problem with VW tdi-engines). higher power doesnt always mean a higher consumption because the engine is more powerfull and runs at lower rpm.
Yes it will affect mpg plus all other mechanical systems.
I was thinking about doing the same to my Passat 2.0 TDI. It seems you MUST use a reliable well known company, preferably one which will let you drive a demo vehicle and will guarantee the all round driveability will be equal or better than standard, and who will refund your money if you are not entirely happy with the end result. I've heard that a good chip upgrade can also have a positive effect on fuel consumption as well. I'm looking for more mid range urge (torque) as opposed to outright power. Auto Express did an upgrade on a Fabia TDI with impressive results - check out their web site.
