Help oil is leaking from the passenger side driveshaft at the gearbox end.?

a bloke at work reckons the driveshaft oil seal is in the actual cv boot. is this true and does anyone know a website where i can get an exploded view of it.

You dont say what make of car you have or whether it is a manual or auto. I have come across this set up before on renault and peugeots. There is a sealed bearing inside the outer edge of the L/H inner cv boot. There should be a steel clip around the outside of the cv boot which keeps this bearing in place. Changing the boot is the only cure for the problem. The drive shaft needs to be removed from the car (drain the gear oil 1st), then undo the steel clip, remove the inner 3 bearing joint , tap off the old cv boot and bearing. Refitting is a reversal of removal but be careful not to damage the new unit when tapping it on.
Don't have a clue what kind of car you have, but it is most probable that you have a seal where the shaft goes into the tranny.

The CV boot is filled with grease, not oil.

If the leak is a reddish color, it is tranny fluid.

Go to your local parts store (or the local library) and look through the repair manual for your car to find an exploed view.
some cars are like you describe with the inner cv boot keeping the oil in others just have a seal the drivshaft goes through
