Diesels are good for towing in general. And the base engine went in the Cortina 2.0 which was the best towing car I know of. My parents used Jags, Mercedes, even a Range Rover and none did the job like a 1981 Cortina 2.0. He kept that car just for the job. If its new though DON'T. It never gets mentioned but if you want to kill a cars engine tow a caravan with it. Get a cheap car for that.
