Would you agree that the new Honda Civic is a great alternative to a VW Golf.?
Answers:
Both fantastic cars but you pay way over the odds for a really good Golf. As a Lexus driver I would put my money on the Jap cars everytime. The Civic is fantastic in every engine size and style. If you are thinking of buying a car of this type have you checked out the Focus? It is the best in this class and beats the stupid BMW1 hands down too!
Nah Vdubs all the way.you just can't test their german engineering.
I would agree that a Honda is an EXCELLENT car, I've owned 4 in my life and they have always been good to me. I've had a CRX, Accord, Civic and now have an Acura (same as Honda).
Well I was very 'anti' Japanese cars until I inherited a Honda Civic (old version) and I found it to be fantastic. The New Honda VTEC engine has been described by Jeremy Clarkson as the best engine in the world. I would agree.
Yes VW has a good reputation and I have owed them also for many years - but now, for me - go for the new Civic. Enjoy.
well golfs suck in automatic, those germans could never get it right, other than that they're very reliable. the honda civic gets better gas mileage. unless you get the golf tdi (diesel) that gets like 3 times the amount of mileage than the civic, but you may have trouble starting it in winter, i dont know how cold, if it all, your winters get. besides that i would call insurance comapre quotes, and see whats more affordable for you. also if they come out to being the same price, more or less, just choose which suits you best. or which you like best (personally i like the vw, damn nice!)
I bot the '06 Civic. I compared it to the Jetta and went with the Honda due to price, reported reliability and resale values. The Golf is a hatchback and the Civic is a sedan. If you like space to carry stuff, the Golf is better.
yes , it s an alternative .
VW is **** compared to honda.
dont even conmpare them! vw wont last. honda will
Good buy imo!
I have a Honda Civic Vtec and its a fantastic car, very reliable and pokey when needed.
Go for the honda civic a great car.
Civic is highly rated in JD Powers and Consumer Reports surveys. In contrast, VW does not do well at all. This is a no-brainer. Get the Civic.
VWs last forever. Civics rust away.
new hondas well sexy cant wait for the type r model
No the Golf is crap. A Bus pass is a great alternative to a Golf.
Get a 2.2 diesel if the Type R aint available.
Golf's are too common these days. The new ones don't even look like Golf's, you can't tell the difference between a Golf and a Polo anymore.
And what's the point in buying an expensive car, if it looks like the cheaper version?!
I would go for a Honda Civic, you can't beat japanese reliabilty, better resale value and looks nicer imo. The Type R also goes faster than most Mercs, BMW M3's in fact most german cars as they are restricted to 155mph. I was told that the new Type R will be the same price as the old one, about £17000, I would hold off till january and purchase one of those.
you know both VW and Honda are great cars!
It depends on which model you were thinking of buying. The Honda Civic Type R is an excellent car. A bit revvy but goes like stink when you need it too. The VW is a heavier car but if you were going for a GTI or R32 then you might have to ponder a bit harder as these two models are proabably faster. Honda bare in mind do have the VTEc which makes it quite economical around town! There are equal numbers of tuners out there who can help you out if need. but inherently Honda reliability is second to none. While VW seem to always scrimp on the smallest things and end up with huge bills!
I've had both a Type R and R32 and I personally who go for the Honda each time!. Remember that saying if it doesn't work then its just a metal box on wheels!
Good luck!
Hondas have a very strong reputation for reliability. The Golf does not. Enough said.
I have always been a big German car fan but in buying my first car here in the U.S. I made a surprising choice of choosing the '06 Honda Civic over all other competitors in its class (VW Golf incuded). I like the quality of materials used in the interior of the Civic as well as the company's ergonomic approach to interior space. The engine is delightfully peppy and very frugal on gas. I opted for the LX model and got all the essental equipment I need for my daily commute to work and fun drives on weekends. Styling is a bit techno-modern for some people's taste but it suits me just fine. Overall, I'm impressed with the new generation Hondas. The Civic is definitely a keeper.
honda make some of the most reliable engins in the world i would opt for the honda.
DEFO CIVIC GR8 CARS I HAVE HAD TO VW EXPENSIVE ON PARTS CIVICS I OWNED 2 THERE GR8
I bought a 2006 civic ex and it was the best purchase ever. Love it, love it, love it. Go for it!
Honda's are awsome!
My dad ownes a accord 1990 its so cool , still clean , and civic's.What could I say outside is soooo cool! ( 2006')
both GTI and Si are good in their own respect
Price wise Si feels better with the reliability of the Honda.
The GTI is not much reliable and i saw somewhere that lot of people are facing reliability issues with the Golf.
The Si lacks steps back at the handling.
if you want pure fun and no worries about money then go for GTI.
but want a reliable and fun to drive car with a little drawbacks choose the Si.
when driving even at low speeds the GTI is more fun to drive
