The transpondent in my remote locking key for my renault megane 1998 model is not working.?

I had this problem with a 1998 Renault Clio, so I'm guessing it'll be the same in a Laguna. What happened was the sunroof leaked, and water got into the receiver in the car, breaking this. This meant I was unable to disable the alarm or immobiliser. I thought this was going to be horrible and expensive. I had to have the car towed to a Renault dealer, where they said this was a common fault, and replaced the receiver unit in the car. Didn't even need to reprogramme my car. Cost £15 for the part and to have it fitted!
hi i have a megane and this has happened to me i took the battery out of the side for 10 mins or so and gave it a wipe.
Go to a locksmith they will be cheaper than the dealers.

they have a tendancy to pack up,try batterys first and while you have it apart look to make sure the little button on the inside is still attached(they break off)..if this doesnt work then sorry the only option is a new key.
Have a look in your manual, it should give a detailed description of how to change the batteries. 99% of the time this is the problem. Do check the button, as someone else sad, they brake.
Failing that, have a look on ebay, you can buy second hand fobs, you'll just need to swap the blades over so the key works, and then have it reprogrammed. That normally costs about £30, a look through yellow pages will show you your local decoder, they're normally the same people who fit car alarms. HEre's a link to ebay for some ideas:

Change the battery in your key, but be careful when opening it as there are small components inside and easily lost.
