Women in 4x4's?

When picking my daughter up from playgroup, I noticed that nearly all the mothers were driving 4x4's.

It's been often implied that men who drive ferraris/porsches are compensating for a lack of size in the trouser department. (I drive a corsa, by the way) Do you think women are doing the same when they buy 4x4's? Perhaps they have empowerment issues and want to wrap themselves in a big strong car? What are your thoughts?

Answers:
Well I don't know. I drive a BMW convertible. I hate big vehicles and I try to stay away from the "soccer mom" way of thinking. I have spoken to a lot of different women about it and they all pretty much say "I drive it because I feel safe - if I get in an accident I am going to crush the other car instead of them crushing me".

That is just a WONDERFUL way of thinking, isn't it?
Its probably because they have a lot of kids to pick up from school, atleast they have a reason unlike some of these guys who drive around in huge trucks just to get a bottle of milk from the corner shop
Get the hellout of the way come PMS time!!!
i see wat ur saying but personally i love big cars trucks hgvs and all sorts. sometimes it could be a persons taste sign of wealth or even just to accomadate ur size. but i love the way i feel in 4x4 feels like ur actually driving or maybe im just in it for the thrill issue,
hey have u been i one
its great
Many women drive these kind of cars because they think they are safer. Remember, they drive their children around: soccer, ballet, baseball, etc.
Personally I don't like them because I find them to be too big and chunky for my taste. I prefer sedans.
I'd say they were just plain stupid.

4x4's use too much petrol, pollute too much, are too cumbersome to drive and park, and block the roads for other drivers.

Stupid and/or selfish.
Have you noticed if they all have small breasts?
I agree. The shortest women I know drive the largest vehicles. And another reason men drive sports cars is because they are going through male menopause. They are reliving their childhood by driving the vehicle they had then or couldn't afford then.
No, I don't think it's compensating for something.

As a woman who drives a huge 4x4, I can say that it's the perceived "safety" that gets me. It feels safer to drive a big beefy truck than a flimsy minivan. I firmly believe I could drive my truck (ford f250, 4 door, turbo diesel with a REAL grill guard) through a minivan if t-boned it at a fast enough speed. That's not to say that I am bragging about that, but that the perceived sense of safety makes me say "Well. if *I* could do that? Why would want to subject my children to the possible risk of someone doing that to us by me choosing to drive a minivan"
not a mom.but I do drive a mid-size pickup that's a 4x4.
One, I like being a little higher up, you can see traffic better.
Two, I got tired of hauling stuff in a 300M.
Three, Gotta love a V8.
Empowerment issues.lol, that's funny. Seriously though, I would tend to agree with the Escalades, Ex-HUGE whatever.yeah, I think some of these women have issues. Same vein.turn signals are not a permission slip, merely an indication of what you'd LIKE to do.
4X4 are more reliable cars and more safer.why not?
I don't feel that this is true. I have a 1996 GMC Yukon and I got it because I like the style and the performance of the vehicle. The 4x4 is good for the winter and you can drive through any snow.
. . . you're probably right, especially when wearing a black leather hot pants outfit - classical dominatrix . . .
