Is a Wankel Rotary Engine cool or funny?

I think Mazda pioneered the wankel engine back in the seventies, it was a good engine but what finished it was the steep rise in fuel prices because of a war in the middle east, the engine was not very fuel efficient. And yes WANKel is a funny name isnt it.

Both. Cool becuase they are extremely powerful for their size. And funny, becuase the unique way that it burns fuel.

They seemed funny to others when they first came out, but I guess they worked ok. . Mazda was the company using them.
They are a pretty neat engine,less moving parts. Suzuki put one in a motorcycle in the 70's

Nope, it is no fun. It was invented back in 1954, may be it was successful and useful invention then but today technology is more demanding and may be it did not meet the margin. It was not a failure invention it was used in early Renault cars and today in Mazda RX-8 2006.
Bosch is still working to improve the technology and someday it may emerge as a leading technology and may compete with the reciprocatory engines.

Slightly wasted by being put into a heavy car and would be better suited to a Mortobike due to the low torque. I think Norton did it years ago to great effect and some success on track too.
its an amazing little machine that churns out more power than i have ever seen, for something that small and light. although not terribly fuel efficient, its impressive, and that in itself is a feat.

ITS COOL AS HELL, RPTARY ENGINES ARE VERY UNIQE AND INTERESTING, I LIKE THAT ALL THE RICE TUNERS THAT KNOW CLOSE TO EVERYTHING ABOUT THIER HONDA OR NISSAN MOTORS STILL HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH POWER CAN BE MADE OUT OF A LITTLE 1.3 ROTARY. MOST PPL UNDER ESTIMATE THEM
