Ford Focus?

My Focus needs some oil badly. Can I put any oil in and is it alright to just top it up with the oil that is already in there?

Answers:
Your Ford garage will advice you correctly otherwise it will say in your manual just match your engine to the oil in the chart.
If its a zetec you must use the correct oil, I was adviced by a very good mechanic who races Focus RS,s any other oil will reduce the efficiency and make for an unhappy engine. buy the best, ie a top brand. also dont put too much, put some in let it sit for a while so it has time to pass through ie, 15 mins then check the dip stick. add as required. also check the coolant levels that is the container in the top left of the engine it should be full of orange liquid, this will keep your engine cool. low levels are bad for your engine. my advice if your naive to cars is to take it into a garage and ask all liquids to be checked and toped up as winters coming and its best to keep on top of these things before things break!
No - you need the correct oil for your engine type. go to Halfords - telll them what car you have and what year and they will tell you. You can top up your oil at any time - except when it's burning hot. don't overfill and do not run your car out of oil - if you do your engine will seize and your car will be totally useless and need a new engine!
I use 5 W-40 Full Synthetic Motor Oil (any make will do)
How do you top up with oil thats already in it?
Make sure you don't overfill it read the dipstick. and use 5W30 a name brand oil.Mobil, Exxon, Pennsoil, etc.
Don't mix synthetic with regular oil either.
no problem, just make sure it is the right grade
Better some oil than no oil! If you need to mix the oil then fine do that but next chance you get go into Kwik Fit and get an oil and filter change for £15
While in an emergency any oil is better than none use the oil specification as shown in the vehicle handbook.
If the oil is very low, change it. Best way to wreck a engine is to run it low on oil. If the engine is healthy it should not need topping up, check the level once per week., dont let it get low for the sake of £2 per litre.
all cars will use some oil, however if yours is drinking too much you need to find out where it is going. u need to use the right oil for your car, go to a good car shop and they will be able to tell you what oil it needs. topping it up with the existing oil is fine but if the car uses this too quickly seek the advice of a mechanic. best of luck
NEEDS OIL BADLY ??HOW LONG AGO WAS THE OIL CHANGED ??SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE NEGLECTING ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT MAINTENANCE ITEMS..OIL CHANGES.I RECOMMEND CHANGING YOUR OIL AND KEEPING TRACK OF WHEN THE LEVAL IS LOW..IF YOUR CAR HAS HIGH MILEAGE USE A HIGH MILEAGE OIL.CHANGE YOUR OIL AT A MIN 4 TIMES A YEAR..MORE OFTEN IF YOU PUT OVER 5000 MILES PER 3 MONTHS..OIL CHANGES ARE THE CHEAPEST WAY TO MAKE YOUR ENGINE LAST.
Most any 5w30 will do, don't worry about mixing types and PLEASE if you are going to get an oil and filter change done; get it done properly, these fast fit £15 oil and filter changes are better given a wide berth, they fit a really low quality oil and filter (usually lower than that removed)! Basically charging 'next to nothing' for less than nothing!

Most petrol stations stock oil. Dip your oil to check the level, the amount between MIN mark and MAX mark relates to 1 litre of oil, if lower than MIN you'll need more than a Litre. Buy what you need and top-up a little at a time, till level between min & max.
if its a zetec engine, consult the manufacturer specs coz they can be a b1tch

oil should be changed at the regular service interval something like 10,000 miles or 12 months or when it tells you to which is what lots of modern cars do anyway. the person who says change it every 5000 miles is probably a garage owner who is after making a quick buck by trying to scare people into parting with their cash needlessly (the old tut tut when they lift the bonnet)

as an emergency, yes use any oil but for as short a time as humanly possible, i.e. the distance from where you fill it up to the nearest decent mechanic
No. Consult your manual for the correct type of oil.
Take it for an oil and filter change-sounds like it needs one.
National Tyres do them for as little as £10 and saves messing about
