I cant get my corsa in second gear whats wrong?
Answers:
i have a corsa , and one day the gears just stopped working only first and second though , oh and reverse , i took it to a garage and they assured me that it was the clutch , so i paid and they fixed , then they told me they were wrong and it was the gear selector that had gone . so again i paid they fixed , however they got it right second time round , no refund for new clutch mind you , they seen me coming ,so have the gear selector checked before the clutch to avoid paying for something you may not need .
It's a Vaxhaul of course
My daughter had the same problem, it's a fault on that model.
I had a similar problem with an Astra a few years ago. The problem was a misalignment in the gear linkages - you need to take to the garage to be fixed unless you are very handy with cars..
Prob broke a gear. That happens from dropping the clutch after putting it in second. Especially if you "race" alot.
Need more info.
Have you checked gearbox oil ?
have you checked clutch fluid ?
Will it go into 2nd without the engine running?
If manual: Change your gear box oil.
If automatic: Change your transmission fluid.
Don't take it to a shop. Do it yourself, and do it right. This is minor stuff.
Gear linkage problem the remote control shift rod has splines that tend to wear .This part can be bought separately needs replacing and resetting.Regards Mick
you need to put your foot on the clutch.
My Megane Scenic suffers a similar problem, only when on hills though. I have a better gearbox lined up though so it can take longer gear changes.
I'd pop it in to a local small independant garage if I were you. Ask tell them the problem and let them drive it round the block, and they'll diagnose the problem, but act as though you will use them for the repair, and it'll be free as they expect your custom afterwards. Then when diagnosed ring round all the garages and ask for a quote on the repairs including parts. I would then ring suppliers to these garages (see yellow pages) and ask the price of the parts. Thus giving you an Idea who will rip you off and who'll do it honestly priced. If your Corsa is a 93/94 model, i'd consider selling it spares or repair if the work is in excess of £500, as its like pouring a years wages down the toilet.
Good luck any who!
your a man who cant drive that well!!
ive adjusted loads of these, including my own, if you take it to vauxhall they will stitch you for a new linkage
my old corsa used to do that. my brother adjusted the clutch cable and it was ok.
Hello, I have a 53 plate Corsa Elegance and my second gear also gave me problems. The problem is the gear linkage. Luckily my Corsa, when the problem occured, was still under the manufacturers 3 year warrenty. I took mine to W.Grose and they admit it's a 'common fault' for the Corsa.
Be sensible, the car is dangerous to drive, get the linkage fixed asap.
Regards.
Matthew.
I have the exact same problem. I got my car serviced at a well known garage, two days later I was unable to get it into gear. They told me that it was the gear linkage and they temporarily fixed although they said it would last a lifetime, apparantly. Now it is broke again and it is going to cost me over £200 to get it fixed.
