Palm couplings on a trailer ..or standard uk fittimgs?

Today I had to drive my truck at work, we use palm couplings on our trucks but the trailer I collected had standard uk fittings, so I had to use an adapter to connect the trailer to my truck. I was told this is not legal as you should not drive a truck on adapter fittings on a public road.. any idea where to find this answer to my question..

Answers:
Using adaptors on Air Brake systems can be dangerous.

Try contacting HGV trailer manufacturers or Transport firms that pull foreign semi-trailers for advice.
Not a clue.
