Why is Diesel in the UK so expensive compared to Aussie and New Zealand?

It costs almost 3 times as much. Is it better quality?

Answers:
No not better quality in fact maybe the reverse, years ago diesel was dirt cheap when the only thing that used it was heavy vehicles, since cars were brought out to run on diesel and more economically the government just could not help increasing the taxes, they knew where they could make the next killing.
No it the same diesel, the good old British government has a higher tax on fuel than other countries. that why it's more expensive.
67% fuel tax good old Gordon Brown friend of the people !
It's called "let's try to save the planet".
It's just taxed more heavily in the UK.
Everything is more expensive in the UK than most other places, it's the ridiculous taxes they make us pay!
i heard recently that there is now not enough places that distill diesel, due to more people using it nowdays. so maybe that is putting the price up abit too.
TAX

all fossil fuels are expensive in the UK.

With the price of cars, road tax and fuel, Britain is one of the most expensive places to drive on the planet.
Its all got to do with road tax. In the uk they pay it in the fuel cost. In nz you pay in advance with road user charges for the amount of tonnes you will carry over the number of axels and weight of the vehicle. Trust me those who use diesel pay! ..and by the way god help you if you are ever caught without the correct tax. That and the UK tax the crap out of everything + vat!!
being on the bottom of the world it doesn't cost them so much to pump it out of the earth . LOL
The government is conning us , big stile.
because us brits just like being walked all over by our wa*****er government, im getting the f**** out!!!
It's because the British government are greedy B******s, and at present employs one of the highest fuel taxes in the developed world. for 99p a litre, the operators profit beleive it or not is only around 5p.

We use lost of fuel here, and as a result the income can be greatly enhanced through high taxation, and means they can keep personal taxes on income lower to keep the votes in
lots of tax to pay in this country (england)
because of tax, the government takes 80-90% for tax.
also on average we earn more in uk.
With 47ppl duty plus 17.5% VAT, what do you expect. This means a 90 pence Litre of diesel is actually about 30 pence before tax!! So convert to a less environmentally harmfull method of transport..Oh no you cant, because the government wont commit to nil duty on biofuels and wont step in to deal with trains etc..
