My Vectra 1.8 16v Auto has idle speed problems, it cuts out when the air con is switched off. Ideas please?

Answers:
Vectras have a history of this as there are some breathers that block up, the Vectra uses Simtec software to control the idle speed and its not adjustable except by tech 3 and above system which vauxhall use. There are some breather pipes to check the first one is one which comes off the rocker cover and goes down to near the dipstick, this should have a modification fitted to it in the form of a small square box which is actually a trap, if it isnt there it needs modifying, remove that pipe and then using some carb cleaner and a rag on a wire coat hanger and clean it out. The second pipe is a smaller pipe which comes off the rocker cover and goes to the throttle body assembly where the inlet pipes mount to this also blocks up and needs cleaninging as well and the take which goes in to the throttle body assembly needs cleaning out as well i use a small drill bit which is about 1.5 mm. The next componenet is the idle air control valve and thats expensive about £140 and apart from replacing the only thing you can do there is find someone who has ultrasonic cleaning bath to clean that. Once you have done that the car will need its idle speed setting at a vauxhall dealer and then you can start looking at the relay that controls the compresser on the air con
Sounds like you may have a faulty sensor unit somewhere, get it checked out at your local garage, not the main dealer they charge the earth and more.
Most likely your Stabilizer Valve is dead. There is an easy way to fix this. You can turn up the Idle RPM's and dont worry about the Stabilizer anymore.

Its easy to turn up the RPM's, all you need is a screw driver. Find a manual for your car.
If your still on warenty, take it to the dealer immeidetly, if your not, take an emergency appoint @ your local shop.
well remember that when you are using the aire conditiooning you need are getting the compresor to activate that make your car loose some power because it uses the same distribution chain that means that went you are racing and the are conditioniing is on yo can blow the compresors clutches and it will stop working so if you like to race you have to turn your ac offf maybe you step on the gas really hard wiht the ac on there you go thats your pproblem you may have blow the clutches of the ac and it has get stuck that is waht make you loose power when you have your ac on
there is a list of reasons, air con is heavy power draining system, it coudl be as simple as the battery has had it the increase of amps on the battery is causing the engine to stall. But an idle problem followed by a stall points more towards a fueling problem. first id try a fuel cleaner Eg Redex
Simple, yuor idling speed is below normal. Get yur manual and a screwdriver to increase it, but be very careful, to high idling speed can cause major problems and to low can make your car jerk a lot. Get a mechanic to look at it if your not to sure.
