What is the easiest way to remove the signage stickers on my van? Peeling them leaves sticky glue behind :-(?
Answers:
WD-40 ..
my uncle uses a heat gun.just don't leave it on one spot to long it will bubble the paint
Nothing works better than hot soapy water, elbow grease and a scourer.
White spirit or lighter fluid should shift it, be carful it doesn't shift the paint too.
pour boiling hot water over them and rub like hell
try hot water, it works and wont damage the paint.
Try a wee bit hard work..
Search for "energine".
Be careful because it will also take a little paint off, but that may be what you have to do to take this junk off.
hot water will help with signs and tar and glue remover will deal with the glue but mind you hands
Peal them as best you can with your fingers.. This will leave a sticky glue behind. Then go back with GOO GONE and remove the sticky glue. This will NOT hurt your paint. it is the best method.
If you try to scrape off the sticker/glue with razor blade or the like you WILL scratch your paint.
There is a product called "Goo Gone" that you can get at your local hardware store that removes adhesive and is great for just that sort of thing and won't harm the paint.
t-cut is the way and will make the van look good after a polish
WD-40 works great for removing stickers and doesn't harm the paint. Works great on furniture - anything.
There is some stuff called Goo Gone that I am sure would work. It is available at Walmart and craft stores.
use a heat gun and a hard plastic scraper to remove the vinyl lettering then use a solvent like lighter fluid or WD 40 to remove the remaining adhesive
if its anything like some of the stickers i've had to put on my car then hot water and a razor blade should take care of it. i would heat the water by running it through the coffee maker w/o any filter or anything this way you have something that easy to pour with too. just pour the water over the lettering and use the razor blade to very carefully lift the stickers off. using the razor blade should prevent any of the glue from staying on the car.
goo gone, plus it has a yummy citrus smell!
Depends on where it's stuck on - glass, steel or paint.
On glass: you can use any flat metal spatula to scrape it off, just make sure there's plenty of water to wet the sticker as you're peeling it off.
On Steel: same method but careful how you scrape since metal can scratch metal.
On paint - I think you can use a rubber scraper for this one. For all 3 - make sure the sticker is thoroughly wet. Use soapy water.
Just pop into any car sign writers and they will be able to advise you. They have chemicals which remove such substances without damaging the paint. Do not under any circumstances use a heat gun on the paint. a paint job will cost a lot more than a quick visit to a professional.
Meths, white spirit , petrol, nail varnish remover and thinners.
all of these solvents work.
Be carefull if in doubt don't do it
Almost any hardware store will carry a product called Goofoff,in a yellow can with red writing.Dampen a rag and get the letters wet,the stuff will almost fall off, even the glue. The letters are probably vinyl. The next problem you will have is the sun has faded the paint more, where there were no letters.Go to an auto parts store and purchase a rubbing compound, and put the elbow grease to 'er.good luck.
a heat gun or sounds daft but a hair drier to take the stickers off then use tar and glue remover from the old faithful a*tog*m, hot water wont really do much and youll be wet as hell by the end of it. workin as a car valet for years gave me all the hot tips i know so im not a pillock with an idea bud, youll have to t cut it after cos the sun would have dulled the paint around the letters.
DONT USE A RAZOR BLADE, you can make a mess, their mainly used for gettin stickers off windshields or tough cr*p left on from driving
WD-40 WILL REMOVE THE RESIDUE WITHOUT HARMING THE PAINT
Try any petrol based product.
I've just been successful in taking signage off of my Chrysler Sebring convertible (black) using Goo Gone. It was recommended to me by another car collector. I can attest to the fact that it works quickly and doesn't leave any residue behind. Nor does it mark the finish. There's no need for 'elbow grease', boiling water, razor blades or anything other labour intensive nor potentially damaging procedures.
Just remove it best you can if it's a vinyl sticker material use a hair dryer and not a heat gun or you'll burn and bubble the pain just take your time. If it's a real plastic like the badges on you car you can use fishing line or dental floss and pull and rotate side to side behind the badge it will still leave glue etc once it's removed you can get from almost anywhere http://www.magicamerican.com/googone.sht.
If you can't find it then ACE HARDWARE or similar should have a substitute product to remove the glue residue.
Good luck be patient.
1). leave a bloddy cat on the car for a while !
2). leave it in the sun for as long as you can.
3). Take it on the motorway and drive fast. The air will help get the glue off..
if all this doesn't help.. put a sign on it "have u had liquor then Wee here".
That will surely help alot
use a hairdryer to heat up the vinyl and the glue and you should not have to much trouble removing it. Once it is off you can use some alchol and some elbow grease to get the rest of the glue off.
Windex works wonders, soak it and use a soft scraper like a plastic card or pot scraper keep soaking and scraping leaves no scratches or residue
goo gone works but so does dawn dishwashing liquid. I would'nt use any blade to get the sticker off but use a shimmy saturated with the glue removal. That and a little brute force should do it.
Mineral oil. It doesn't damage the paint, but it'll take it all off. You saturate the sticker or the remaining goop with it.dont' let it dry on the car.and then gentle start peeling it off.putting more mineral oil under the sticker as you ease it up.
Works wonderfully.
I use this on all those stickers the dealer puts on (if they want to pay me to advertise for them, then I leave them on..*chuckle*). I've never lifted the paint, or had any trouble with it.
