What is the knock that comes from the passenger footwell in my mk2 Golf GTI?
Answers:
most probably your gearbox mount as this is on the passenger side, dead easy to change (basically 2x 17mm headed bolts running left -> right) you must support the gearbox with a trolley jack or similar though otherwise you'll rip your engine mounts out.
good luck
is it a small squirrel trying to get back in?
Maybe sumthing is hitting the supension (the footwell) because of the shift shock. because it jolts, maybe somthing is out of place and hitting the footwells.
youve hidin a little person in there to drive you mad
is your car a ringer
a knock just the one? or continous knocking?
i think it could be the cv joint if contin ous knocking and doing it when on full steering lock and driving the car.
have you checked the bottom ball joint what abpout the tie rod end ball joint by trying to prise the ball joint with a jemmy bar or large screwdriver.
also grab the driveshaft at each end and give a shake to see if theres any play from the gearbox end and the wheel hub end.
thats all i can think off until you give more info.
I think it may be your CV joints.
It may be a popped driveshaft or a worn CV joint. Is the Hub properly secure? or it may even be loose engine mounts. sorry i can't help more
top mount buddy possability also check engine mount if your only knocking on pulling away the torque is twisting the mounts and as you level off it should be find until you put the boot down again
i had a g reg 16v gti , and i had to have all the mounts ( engine and gearbox ) and cv joints done , mine was knocking on pulling away , esp from speedbumps
could be the preasure plate in the clutch i'm afraid
It could the shock absorber might need attention.
