What is the function of the curly cables that connect between the truck and the trailer on articulated lorries

I think there are about four of them, but sometimes more.

Answers:
red line is the emergency air supply, it supplies air to keep the brakes on the trailer released when applied so the trailer can move, air pressure releases and is used to apply brakes.
the blue line is the service line and it is what engages the brakes , with air pressure, when the foot brake, or treadle valve, is applied. the green, sometimes black, is for the electrical , to operate the clearance lights, turn and brake signals on the trailer. it might appear that there are more when the trailer is close to the cab of the truck (lorrie) and they are somewhat tangled together.
Brake air pressure red and green yellow is electrical for lights
Compressed air for the air brakes
air brakes
They are air lines for the trailer's brakes and a connection for the lights. If they are not connected the trailers brakes will be on and the wheels won't turn.
Air supply for the illegals.
They supply air pressure to the airbrakes on the trailer.
air pressure for the brakes and cables for the electricity
To power the back lights. . . would you like to hit the rear of a truck?
service connections from the cab to the trailer,
air for brakes, electrics for lights etc
two are for the air that operates the service and emergency brake, two are for the electriccs for lights indicators etc and the last one is specifically for the ABS trailer system.
they supply the air to the brakes i think
They are called "soozies" aint they? Are they not for compressed air for the breaks and electric cables for the lights? Couldnt tell you what colour is for what though!
red pipe emergency brake supply
yellow pipe service brake supply
very thin cable(sometimes taped to electric line) for the ABS sensors.
other one(s) are for electric for the lights
hope this helps
there are usually 5 in total, two of them are air lines though,
RED airline is for emergency braking,
YELLOW airline is for seavice brakes,
Two electrical lines called SUZIES for lights and electrical equiptment on the trailer,
and an ABS line for trailers that have an ABS braking system.
sometimes lorries also have a BLUE airline which power auxillary air equiptment on some trailers
Glad hand coupling and seals are what connect the air lines to the trailer from the tractor

The Red line is the tractor emergency air line
this is where the air flows in when appling the brakes for the trailer .

The Blue line is the tractor service air line
which acts as an exhaust line or air return

The Black OR Yellow line is the power cord for the trailer to operate
lights and also a dump valve if the trailer is equiped with one.
brake lines for trailer
air supply for the brakes and also power for the lights both at the rear and the running lights
