I prefer Carter/Edelbrock carbs to Holley myself. Carter/Edelbrock are the same carb.manufactured by Weber. Buy the Carter because if you buy Edelbrock you're paying more for the name. Since your engine is a 305 forget the high CFM models and stick with the 500 CFM range unless of course you have lots of cam and headers in which case you can go more CFM. Stock applications with your smaller small block dictate smaller CFM carbs.
I've had good luck with a Holly 600 4 barrel on one car I had. Just the basic one with manual choke. They are fairly easy to work on. Of course that was 20 years ago on a '79 so I didn't have to deal with any computer stuff. The one I had had vacuum opened secondaries so as long as I didn't get on it hard the gas mileage was the same as the 2 barrel that was originally on it.
Either the edlebrock or holley in 600 cfm should work great for you. You will however have to change the Intake manifold and get a different fuel pump as the one for the fuel injection will most likely have way to much pressure for a carb.
tbi is like a carby it puts the petrol into the air at the same place as a carby so all that you are doing is taking the control of how much petrol is going from the computer in the car but if you wont go carburetor then a holly is one that you can get a lot of info about and has a good back ground 4 is good for top end with a okay bottom end rev pick up
there are a lot of things that you can do with you efi
if you increase the performance increase the pressure in the petrol lines
Why would you want to do that? F/I is better than any carb you can put on it. Just my opinion.
I like the holley 570 avenger for this application. If you have a 700r4 trans with overdrive , you will need to get a lock out kit from summit racing to make your tranny shift right.
edlebrock.. i had one on my 350 sb.. worked great out of the box. hollys need tuning.. get edlebrock manafold also. new fuel pump is needed. dont worry.. with a 305 you will never have to worry about having performance!
prolly a 600 cfm carb and going to have fun with that with the comp that controls the trottle body and the sensors.
i'd go with a holley model 4165. they're 650 cfm and it'd probably make your 305 scream.
tbi sucks go mpi or if you like performance for off-road a 600cfm quad crap for mileage but that don't matter
Why would you want to replace a fuel injected system with a prehistoric carburetor? I have a 350 in my car with a multi Port fuel injection system on it and it blows the doors off carberated models!
