What does gti stand for?

Answers:
Gran Turismo Injection probably,

It is also an anagram of GIT as in Flash Git

Proper sporting cars such as the MG Maestro used EFI Electronic Fuel Injection but Triumphs used the term PI petrol injection instead of the more descriptive MFI, Mechanical Fuel Injection

Grand Touring Injection
grand tourer injected, would be a fair assumption. -Dan.
I think it came from the earlier GT standing for Grand Tourer which was usually a souped up and better spec version of the standard saloon.

Then low and behold injection engins became fashionable so the added the 'i'
g- idk
t- turbo
i-injected
The term was invented by Volkswagen when they first introduced the Golf GTI. The GT comes from the Italian 'Gran Turismo' and the I for Injection, as in fuel injection.
GTI stands for Got Tw**s Inside (just look at the drivers)
G = Got.

T = Turbo.

I = Innit.
