Back lights and dash lights escort not working?
Answers:
Check your front sidelights as well (switch on 1st position)
If they are not working either it will be the light switch itself not working, very common problem on escorts.
The dash lights are on the same circuit as the sidelights(front & rear) so when the switch fails your dash lights fail as well.
I suspect your dipped headlamps and main beams are probably still working.
take it to the car hospital
it may be a bad earth or a lose wire the is a black wire on the starter motor well i think it is black check that this is not loose
You haven't changed a brake light or other rear light recently have you?
If you haven't put a bulb of the correct rating in - this can cause strange problems.
did you check the fuses with a test light? sometimes they can look good but not be good. normally the tail lights and the dash lights are on the same fuse. use a test light on them on both sides of the fuse with the lights turned on..if this is not the proble, I'd lean towards a bad light switch.easy to change on most cars.
common fault with ford escorts, it will be the switch controls which can be changed very easily but remember to change the relay at the same time, its fitted to the controls too.
I would just replace the fuse with a new one because they are on the same circuit and it will cost you less than a dollar to know for sure.
