What is the main difference between a VW Golf and Polo?
Answers:
Golf is the next size up in the range!
so more leg room more head room! the engine/wheels will probably be bigger. a golf will usually cost more to run / buy.
you get the point!
the power the options the price
The looks. Obviously they are made by the same manufacturer so all engine and internal parts are same.
So size matters?
one is a golf and the other is a polo
The Volkswagen Golf (Mark 1 and Mark 5 badged as Volkswagen Rabbit in North America) is a compact car / small family car manufactured by Volkswagen. The Golf is Volkswagen's best-selling model in history and world's third best-selling model, with more than 24 million built as of 2005[1].
Most production of the Golf has been in the 3-door hatchback style. 5-door hatchback, station wagon (estate/Variant) and convertible (Cabrio) variants have also been available, as well as a sedan (saloon) car based on the Golf (see Volkswagen Jetta). They have existed everywhere between basic personal cars and high-performance sports coupés.
The success of the Golf popularized the use of the hatchback in the C segment of cars and started the entire golf class. See also Volkswagen A platform.

The Volkswagen Polo is a subcompact/supermini car manufactured by Volkswagen. It is sold mainly in Europe, but available in most export markets. It is generally available only as a hatchback but there have also been sedan (saloon) and wagon (estate) variants.
It was introduced in 1975 and there have been four generations of the car so far, each of which has received a midlife face lift. This article is an overview of all versions, each of which has its own separate page.
On its introduction in 1975, the Polo was Volkswagen's second front wheel drive hatchback model, fitting into the range beneath the Golf, which had been launched the previous year. It remained the smallest model in the VW range until 1998, when the VW Lupo was introduced. The Polo is the second smallest model in the current VW range, larger than the VW Fox and smaller than the VW Golf. Over the generations, the Polo's size has increased, and curiously the latest incarnation of the Polo is actually larger than the original Golf.
The current version is mechanically very similar to the SEAT Ibiza and Škoda Fabia, being based on a standard VAG group chassis used for a large number of models.
In North America, the Golf is the smallest VW available, and the Polo has never been sold in this territory.
