Should petrol forecourts show the 'before tax' price of their fuels as well as the price we end up paying ?

ie "Diesel - 38p per litre, Tax 55p, total 93p"

Answers:
Yes, but it will not happen as the fuel companies blame the high cost on tax, the government on the cost of crude, so we are kept in the dark. It should be displayed as :- company charge + UK duty + 17.5% VAT = total. As you can see we actually pay tax (VAT) on tax (duty).
I would prefer it that way over here in the states.

BTW: What are you guys paying for it? Is that per liter?
We pay (with taxes) about 0.66 USD per liter.
No

Most folk think it is Diesel 8p Gordon Brown 85p so if the truth were told Gordons Popularity may soar and we dont want that do we
No. Why just break down the tax? Why not display the cost of extraction, shipping, marketing, the cut the wholesaler and retailer get, the wages of the guy behind the till, etc etc.

Arguably the tax on petrol - which goes on our pensions, NHS, etc - is better spent than the profits to the oil companies and their middle men.
No, why would they? It's 17.5% of whatever!
No, it would be too confusing
not on the forecourt, it would be too confusing.

It should be shown in full on your receipt like Sainsbury used to at their filling stations.

Its more like 20p for the fuel and the rest is duty and vat.
I agree. I would like to see more tax visibility.
And I agree, there's a lot more tax than just VAT.
yes to prove how greedy this goverment are
Yes I agree what a GREAT IDEA it's about time people become more aware!
off the point but I also think you could do a similar thing with some of our super market food lines, how about on egg boxes and frozen chickens you had a picture of poor old Henrietta sat in prison all her life just to end up dead on a super market shelf for two days!! It may just open peoples eyes a bit !
