I need to soak something in petrol, can anyone recomend what type of container I could use? can I use a bucket

Not sure the plastic will be ok?

Answers:
Not all plastics dissolve in petrol. Poly Propylene, PP for short is ideal and frequently used to make buckets and containers. PET bottles, metal containers, glass or ceramic bowls are also good.
PP containers are very cheap and can be found in any supermarket.

Ideally just cut open a 1 liter PET watter bottle and use it as a container. Else cut open a used (campbell soup type) tin can. These are ideal for small objects like carburators.

Save you money for something else may be an ice cream!
Mmmm sounds a bit dodgy to me are you an arsonist lol
I would use a metal can - an old coffee can should do.

If its large you could use one of those plastic catch pans for when you change oil. That should resist the gas ok.
You're not going to commit arson are you? You can buy special containers from garages - they're if you run out of petrol.
Since gas cans are made of plastic, I assume plastic will be fine
No! A plastic bucket will melt - you need a metal container or something designed for petrol.
a metal bucket will do. some plastics are not resistant to petrol.
What do you need to soak in petrol??

Try a metal container, the ones like a tin of Quality Streets perhaps.

Whatever you choose.be careful 'cus if it gets a spark then you're in one helluva BANG!
use something else instead of petrol, nasty on your hands too, try car cleaner for the inside and and strong soap such as swarfega for the outside, shine it up nice with either solvol or wadding for metal polish
i have used empty ice cream containers before and had no probs, give one of them a try..
Get a parts cleaning solution from one of the big 3 NAPA, Advance or Auto Zone..works much better than petrol and do it in an old tin can, maybe empty paint can or coffee can. Good luck.
CANT SEE WHY YOU NEED TO USE PETROL DUDE,DIESEL WILL DO A BETTER JOB AND IS NOT AS VOLOTILE,VERY DANGEROUS TO ONESELF,AS LOTS OUT THERE WILL TESTIFY?
i use a bucket all the time for soaking bike bits
petrol is much to dangerous, use Gunk engine cleaner & degreaser.
Don't use petrol at all for this purpose. Buy some proprietry cleaning fluid which is designed to dissolve the crud around your old carb. Gunk or "brake cleaner" will do the job much more satisfactorily and without the risk. You could use diesel at a push, but remember it is carcinogenic, so keep it off your skin and avoid breathing the fumes.
