Why would the fuel gauge on my Astra G/4 lie to me?
Answers:
Your fuel gauge determines your fuel level using a floater in your gas tank that is attached to a lever arm (generally). Gas gauges can be inaccurate if the arm doesn't move freely or if there is very little gas in your gas tank.
Because its broken?
I had an Eddie Bauer Bronco years ago and the gas gauge would go all the way down, disappear and come back up at about a half tank.I never wanted to find out if it ever came back up again. Some cars are just strange.
My Pontiac would tell me the car was empty even when it had just overflowed with gas at the station. There was a small part that had come loose in the gas tank. They fixed it in 2 seconds at the auto shop I go to. Now it is working perfect
because it's broken and you need to replace it.
the gauge is not lying, more than likley the float in the gas tank is not working properly,or the wire from your gas tank to the gas gauge ,has a bad connection, and giving you a false reading.
Because cars are evil hateful machines.Mines in the shop right now and it's a B$%^
It didn't lie. It got stuck.
Most fuel gauges only show approx. quantity.
With a bit of luck its a little negative to ensure that you dont run
dry.
Top up often.
Either the tank sender or the gauge is faulty and it has given an erroneous reading, if its a constant read one, i.e it still registers with the ignition off, then it's likely the gauge is sticking as they aren't very good, Fords with the constant read out are very guilty of doing this, back in the 80's the Sierra had this kind of gauge and my dad was caught out many times!
