How much does an escalator cost?

I'm having an arguement with a mate as to whether my salary (per year) would be enough to construct an escalator to replace the steps to the underpass near my house.

We are of course talking hypothetically, and am not really intending to pay to have this done. I just want to know how much a 30 step escalator would cost, so that if I was enough of an idiot to do it, whether or not I could!

Answers:
An escalator that has 30 steps that you can climb at any one time (there has to be steps on the underside..the steps are in a belt) would cost $150,000.
Plus matinence
who knows, the prices keep escalating !!
yea the price keeps going up!!!!!!!
probably like around $67,469.98
Hard to tell, they'er always going up!
Lot of hidden cost..just how much do you make per yr?.. but was on a escalator once..that stopped due to power outage.we was trapped for hrs.finally..just said hell with it and walked..lol
The prices go up and down accordingly.
