What weight caravan can a vauxhall astra 1600cc pull comfortably?

I own a Vauxhall Astra 16 valve V tec dual fuel car, I am interested in Caravaning and would like to get some idea of the size of caravan I could buy that would not put excessive strain on the engine and be towed safely.

Answers:
you may be better off getting the caravan to tow you in the car!!This would really give you a proper relaxing holiday...

Sorry, I do not know this answer to this one but, have fun!!
66%of its kerbwieght
NO don't do it. It's a Caravan for gods sake, have you no shame
Check the owners hand book. Rule of thumb never tow bigger than the weight of the car. Any extra weight is hard on a small engined car and if the caravan weight is the same as the car twice as much strain on the brakes. Did you look into renting a Diesel Powered Motor Home? It wont it is 1600.

You need a V8
I see that there is the usual stupid answers to this question. The recommendation from the Caravan Club is not to tow at more than 85% of kerb-weight unless you are experienced and even then never at more than 100% of kerb-weight.This doesn't give an awful lot of choice, but there are several very light caravans on the market. Get hold of a current copy of , for example, Practical Caravan magazine and you will find lists of models with their weights (MTPLM is the one to look for)
