The fastest model of Audi A3 (the S3) is quicker than the Clio 172 by 17 mph (138 to 155).

If by quicker you mean driving from A to B on a typical British B road then the 172 is quicker and it's handling is superior to the equivalent Audi's (2.0T). If you mean straight-line top speed then the A3 is faster.

Btw I drive a 1.8T A3 so I'm not biased. Hope that helps!
