How do i remove the cigar lighter housing from a mondeo. its faulty and needs replacing.?

I just replaced the lighter in my truck also.I was stumped too on how it came out but finally figured it out.Most lighters just unscrew from the back.There is a housing around the lighter.Do not try to unscrew the part with the hot wire on it.Just turn the outside housing around it counterclockwise.I hope this works for you also.
if you can stick your hand under behind tha foot well and reach up
you should be able to unscrew the unit
maybe you will have to remove part of dash board
I'd suggest taking it directly to a Ford Dealership or somewhere that specialises in fixing Ford cars / Ford Mondeos.

if its the ashtray that runs right across the console then pop up the gearstick cover and if i remember right there are securing screws for the bottom of the console that houses the ashtry/lighter
