Do you ever let tailgaters speed you up?

Or do you have any tactics for dealing with them?

Answers:
I rarely drive

However on the odd accasion that I have my reaction entitely depends on the circumstances.

If I can safely let them pass I will do so, otherwise I just ignore them and continue at the speed with which I am comfortable. I would dearly like to jam on the brakes but most times when I have been driving I have considered my life more important than teaching an idiot a lesson. It is fortunate that I am not driving at the moment as I feel like testing the brake idea.
Nope, they make me slow down.
I actually slow down for them, or change lanes if I can.

I slow down in the hopes that they will slow down. If someone's riding my tail, I want to make sure I have even *more* distance between myself and the car in front of me, which is why I slow down.

If I'm driving at or above the speed limit (as I usually do), I never let some tailgating moron make me go even faster.

If I'm driving under the speed limit and I get a tailgater, then I will try to change lanes.
Hit the brakes.
I usually hit the brakes. scares them enough to get off my butt
They make me slam on the breaks.
Not usually, I just go slower to piss them off
I tap my brakes like i'm going to stop, that usually works for me.
haha i drive exactly the speed limit(the slowest i can go) to piss them off, it's so fun
no ,i put my brakes on,that confuses them
My fav. thing to do to tailgaters is to slow down, then stomp on the accelarator and take off to 90 mph. They usually can't keep up.
What I normally do is continue my speed but move my mirrors so i can pretend they arent there. If they are ultra agressive I will put my hand up (like slow down) they see through my back window. It actually works.
no, I usually just get over since they're not smart enough to pass. but if they really piss me off. I'll block them in by pacing and 18 wheeler thats only going about 50mph. I look in my rearview and see them yelling and shaking their hands. it's great.
Never let anyone think they can push me to go faster, if they start to annoy me i drop my speed by 5mph if that doesn't work i drop it some more until they back off
I drive long distances. It's all about cooperation. If I'm in the fast lane, and someone wants to go past me, I pull to the right and let them go. It's just so much easier.
Sure.I just stomp on the brakes every 30 seconds or so, drive in the passing lane at 20 mph below the speed limit and always leave one turn signal 'on' at all times.
Have had to patch lots of bullet holes so far.
no. i put my feet on both break (gently) and accelarator. just to annoy and get them off my butt
I have done but now I slow down until they back off or overtake or I pull over and let them pass.
No.. they just make me slam on my brakes!! And then their expression makes me p.iss myself laughing.
i usually tap the brakes enough to scare the sh1t out of them!!
I keep varying my speed in an unpredictable & annoying manner
hahaha..I hate aholes that are in the fast lane and don't get over when someone comes up behind them. That is what you are supposed to do! If someone is going faster than you, get over and let them by. You aren't supposed to be in that lane anyway. It is a passing lane!!
In fact what I do to those idiots is great. I drive a large double cab dully. If some ahole is driving slow in the and refuses to get over like he/she is supposed to. I will go around them and get in front of them and then let my inside tire drift onto the shoulder. Now due to the size of the this truck I tend to pick up a lot of rocks. Heh heh heh.. Does wonders to a windshield and paint.
I love it.
My tactic didn't work. I tapped my brakes on the M25 and the lorry driver ran me onto the hard shoulder! I'm serious - he pulled alongside me and rammed me off the road. BUT, the silly idiot had the name of his company and the telephone number on the side of the lorry so I wrote to the MD. Got a lovely letter in response telling me the lorry driver's story was very different to mine (? no . really??) however, they didn't believe him and he'd been disciplined. Obviously I've no idea what really happened to him but it made me feel better!
i slow down then i show them my brake lights. if that doesn't solve it then i will slam on my brakes. then the will back off real quick
No I slow down to about 5mph under the speed limit to really pee them off..then drive like a twat! All the time, waving in the rear view mirror and showing the thumbs up sign..
This normally works for me, I slow down by changing down a gear, they then think that your brake lights are not working, so pull back in case you brake again.
No, the correct action is to slow down. Don't slam on the breaks, but slow down until they pass you ( According to the D.O.T. and Highway Patrol.) I find this to be a well thought out strategy and an excellent way of dealing with tailgaters.
I HATE TAILGATERS! Normally, i pullover and ask them to fight but usually the just speed off (cause there pu$$ie$) thats when i get back in my truck go chase them down an tell them to pull over hang out my window and cuss them out! I can kill a tailgater!
When someone is tailgaiting me, I maintain a safe speed, or just go slower, and I know they are ticked off, but sorry, I'm not going to let you make me move faster, since I try to keep a very safe distance ahead of me. Go around me, or if not possible, chill!! Everybody is in a rush these days, and these idiots that tailgate have to learn to take it a bit slower, so no one gets hurt. Besides, I love when someone that is tailgating me, after they get ahead of me, get stuck at the same light as I do, especially if they are in front of me, or next to me. Like I said, chill!! Slow down, and live longer.
Just keep an eye on them but in general ignore that they're there, and if conditions allow then you should just take even more time than usual to make your manouvres!
Sometimes, then I immediately get annoyed at myself for letting them stress me out and slow down to p**s them off. Just don't break too hard or they go into the back of you - that is the voice of experience as I am currently driving a courtesy car while mine is repaired for damage done due to said tailgater.
Big fat NO. I would usually slow down alittle, tailgating is normally an incentive to slow down. If they continue then I would hit my brakes and if i'm on a stretch of the road where they could overtake I move into the middle of the road as much as as is safe so they can't get passed.
