How can I refurbish old window rubber on a camper van?
Answers:
You have to replace the rubber by taking the window out.
there is a commercial item called Final Coat that does wonders.. but it depends on how bad of shape the rubber is in.. Many auto detail places can get you the final coat or know who you can get it from..
If the rubber is really cracked and perrished them you will need to replace it. If it is just grey and discoloured you could try something like "Back to Black " or other rubber restorers such as the kind used on car bumpers etc
clean them with normal vinegar (the kind you use on chips - or fries if your in the states). wipe it around the rubber with a piece of kitchen roll and the acid is strong enough to clean it and kill the bacteria but not strong enough to harm the rubber in any way.
Don't use mineral oil, ie car engine oil or the like, as that will rot the rubber. Use vegetable oil and rub well in and wipe off excess. If the rubber is split badly then you could find rubber stuff in a tube. Sorry can't be more help on that but there is such stuff but can't remember the name or description. Ask in a garage or motorists shop. I know there is such rubber in a tube as I've used it before.
Scrapyard possibly??
cover them with silacone spray
