Over heating landrover Discovery, Has new water pump but gauge still on H ?
Answers:
air lock
Check the fan-belt and timing and leaks
could be a bad thermostat, if it doesn't open all the way the coolant wont circulate.
you need too bleed the system, park it on kerb, 2 wheels, take off radiator cap, and base cap put hose in top an run water through xx failing that try with top off rad to push throttle a few times gently, that might do it too, good luck xx
No hot air means no water circulation.
Thermostat stuck closed, radiator blockage, air lock (most likely here)- check for bleed valves in the coolant circuit, always fill a cooling system with the heater set to hot. (Only fill the engine when it is cold though) If its diesel - overtemperature is a killer, they do not like it especially the TD5 (storm) engine.
Petrols dont like being cooked either but are marginally more tolerant.
Good luck.
Have a BMW 3 series and it has happened to that about 3 times now. Apparently all it was was an air bubble in the pipes somewhere, which stopped the engine from cooling - took it to a garage who just *bled* the pipe and filled the water pump with water under pressure which prevents air from getting in.
Worst case senario - as was suspected with me, due to cold air in heating system was that the "Head Gasket" has gone, which in my car was going to cost £800 to repair`!
My car still works sporadically, but I am yet to find a permanent cure for the problem, so the best of luck to you !!
big air lock ,there should be bleed screws on high points in system
