DON'T get a Lexus please, they really boring and beige cars with all the life of a pot plant in them. I say go for an old 5 series BMW, an Audi A6 or Jag XJ. For something different get a Bristol Blenhiem - Paul Smith's car or if you want to be stupid but very cool a 70's Aston Martin DBS can be got for £5000. On second thoughts just get the Aston.

not quite luxury, but nice, good quality and you can buy brand new for less than £6000

you could pick up a good Audi A4
You cant go wrong with a Lexus.
Think about something 8 - 10 years old.
audi, vw or saab !! more bang for your buck than merc & bmw, or even go for a moderate make like renault or peugeot that way you could get a top of the range model
Nothing under 5 years old.
Get an older Lexus.
Is 6000 for the down payment?
Go with a VW golf or Audi A4, should get a decent one at that price
A Lexus of some description, although £6k isn't a great deal of money, and Lexus hold their prices well. Try to buy within the Lexus dealer network if you can, but the auctions will be full of 'luxury' cars of all types. Just buy carefully.

Most German cars, 3 years and older, will give you power and luxury..BMW, Mercedes (but here you have dodgy build quality), Audi, VW Passat..
