What is the Viable alternative to Oil when it runs out.?

Solar power. When we run out of sun, the earth will be dead anyway, so thats the source to use.
The only viable option is to stop Busing it before it runs out. Otherwise we won't have a planet left to enjoy.

vegtable oils are new resource that is becoming a viable option. Also natural gas is a stedy source. Or a bike.
nuclear fission (not fusion) will replace power stations as soon as they can make it stable. but likleyhood is the world will destroy it self as it fights over the last remaing oil

I have seen this experiment before about using Lotus plant. What the guy did was grow lotus in his backyard pond. And kept some inside a air tight jar to let it rot. And the gas trap inside the jar from the rotten lotus apparently is able to ignite. Not sure if he has added any other stuff inside. But might want to look into this possibilities.
For cooking, you could use lard.
For sunbathing, you could use cream.

The most viable at present is hydrogen fuel cells, these work by combining liquid hydrogen and oxygen, producing only water and electrical energy in a special cell. Special membrane is required to separate and control the reaction but as efficiency improves sufficient energy will be produced to power electric motors in the next generation of cars.
Unfortunately this requires a whole new infrastructure of hydrogen filling stations and cars, which won't exist before the cars are in production, which won't exist until the infrastructure is there and so on
Wind energy is likely to be used to produce the power to electrolyse watter to produce the hydrogen, reducing further the environmental impact.

Oil is not a problem as it can be made from most plants. In Wales and Cornwall some people were using the oil from chip shops (plus ethinol) to power their diesel vehicles
Wouldn't it be great if the greenhouse gasses that are killing us all could be recycled and used as a safe power source.
But that is probably to simplistic because I have not yet heard of anyone trying it.
In the mean time everyone needs to see the folly of constant consumption and start thinking before they use up all of our resources and destroy the environment completely. This is one problem that nobody can buy their way out of. We all have to change and force our politicians to act in our best interests not that of big business.
i don't think oil will ever 'run out'. they call it fossil fuel and some oil wells are as deep as 5 miles. am i supposed to think dinosaurs all jumped in to 50,000 foot holes and fermented. i think oil is being produced as a natural function of nature. at best, cheap oil will 'run out'. as we produce alternative fuels, the need for oil will diminish. most all of the oil that is too rich in sulfur and cant be used for fuel is used a lubricants for motors, clothes, and rugs, etc. is plentiful. Brazil converted to ethanol fuels[85/15%] in about 5 years. i think the USA will follow that path, the need for oil will diminish to the point that we will never run out. back to your question, at this point in history, no alternative exists that is as cheap and as easy to retrieve and produce as oil. my opinion only.

Bio Diesel of course. Clean, renewable and relatively cheap to produce, until the government taxes it.
I am glad you are taking an intrest in the future as you will not be around when oil runs out, There is still lots of undiscovered oil fields out there.
