Car recently failed NCT(MOT) on rear suspension imbalance. The rear suspension needs replacing.Major Job/Cost?

Its the left rear suspension but NCT(MOT) guy said to get right rear done too. Is this a major job? What sort of price? Is it time to put the car down?

Answers:
If it's just the suspension then get it fixed. Everything costs money. But depending on the car the parts could be as cheap as $50.00 and the labor as cheap as $150.00 for a good mechanic and the work really isn't difficult. I just had mine done and it cost me a total of $200.00 give or take a couple of dollars.
What exactly did they say needed replacing? If it's a matter of springs or shock absorbers then I would repair it as it would be less expensive to fix than replace the car. If the body attachments for the rear axle are shot ( rusted out) then it would be a different story.
If it is just a case of replacing the shock absorbers, then they are probably going to cost you between £15-50 as long as your car is not prestige or sporty.

Get yourself a haynes manual to see how relatively easy it is to replace the rear suspension shock absorbers. Well it is fairly easy on most cars, alot easier than the front ones.

It is always best to change both sides as it will give you a balanced ride and not throw the handling out.
