Whats the point?

For the Yanks on here who haven't got a clue what your talking about i will explain, i see the American guy above didn't get the question.
In the UK our motorways (highways) have 3 lanes, that's like a small side street to you lot i know.
Anyway, the rule is you drive in the left lane unless you are going to overtake in which case you move into the middle lane, pass and then move back into the left lane.
If you have traffic in both lanes, you are allowed to go into the right lane (mistakenly called the fast lane which it isn't because 70mph limit applies to all lanes) overtake traffic and then move back into middle and then into left hand lane.
You shouldn't be in other lanes unless you are passing slower traffic, ok, it's not quite as simple as that but that's basically it.
Other traffic entering the Motorway via a slip road has to merge into the traffic but lots of drivers are courteous and when the Mororway is busy will move into the middle lane to allow you to join safely.
The whole point of this is to allow traffic travelling at higher speeds move towards the middle or right lane without having to weave in and out of the traffic.
Over taking is only allowed on one side over here so when someone sits in the middle lane and there is no other traffic you have to cross 2 lanes as you approach them and then back 2 so you return to the left hand lane.
They are effectively making a rolling road block, it backs up all traffic because everyone is having to make 4 lane changes to pass one vehicle.
It throws the whole balance of the system out which i belive is much better than the American Highways where you have cars overtaking you from all sides, you can also get stuck with fast moving traffic either side and makes it more difficult to hit the slip roads.
I belive the UK system is safer and maybe this is why we have a 70mph limt rather than yours.
People who sit in the middle lane are lazy and selfish, they don't think about the bigger picture, if we all did that it would be chaos.
Oh yes, and at least we Brits drive on the right side of the road.lol
too right! It causes accidents as well. Sometimes, driving too slow is more dangerous than speeding.
because they are dumb.
You say middle lane, so it must be a 3 lane highway. It is much safer there, because you do not have to worry about people entering the freeway. And they are still out of the way of the speeding drivers in the fast lane. It is safer. And they are probably using their cruise control, and thus they think they are right.
as they are stupid by not obeying the rules of the road
They are tha ppl who piss ppl off till road rage. Seriously i think that they all should be taught how to drive , or just an extra lane 4 tha slow lame cunts
This makes me cross everytime i use the motorway. Its what causes accidents. And more annoying than that is when they sit in the middle lane and then when you go to overtake they speed up. Whats that all about?
Welcome to the world of old drivers lol
because they love to annoy us
I agree 65 is to slow for the centre lane, but there is not much you can say when they do 70, it's the limit, and you shouldn't be going faster than that anyway. Just get into the fast lane (which is also 70) and pass at your own risk to the speed cameras.
It is laziness.
I have never met any of these people face to face, every time I've brought it up (as you did on here) everyone seems to be on my side.
Either these lazy people are on a continuous loop around the country in the middle lane for 24 hours a day, or they are very good liars.
it is simply laziness, although I do have one good news story.. I used to travel a lot on the motorway (4-6 hours a day) and I was following a police car up the M1 at a steady 67 miles per hour, we were in the inside lane and suddenly he pulled out and put his lights on to pull a car over we had been following for about 6 miles who was also doing 67 miles per hour in the middle lane and made no effort to move back, since I saw defect with their driving other than that and there was nothing obviously wrong with their car, I assume that they were being pulled for sitting in the middle lane, so there is hope for us frustrated drivers who have to deal with middle lane hogs day in and day out!
i use to help people remember this law at $75.00 a crack --lol--
because trucks and others are only doing 55 in the right hand lane like they are supposed to
I totally agree with obzi, well said
There is no such thing as a slow lane - the left lane is for normal driving. The middle lane is only for overtaking vehicles on the left and and the right lane is only for overtaking vehicles in middle lane.
these are the people who feel they are not competent to drive on the motorway. Being in the middle lane they don't have to over or under take.
because they feel more comfortable in the middle lane and do not realise that they are not following the high code. I agree it is annoying
