cats gone. have you put in the wrong fuel in recently..
If Diesel . Change the Fuel filter..if petrol .. Check HT leads / Plugs / Card jets or injectors / condenser / Timing .
Try the cheapest first.. on both engines get some "Octane boost " this will clear out the fuel system.
Hope this helps.
take it to an independant and get the engine management system checked do it asap my brother in law has a laguna deisel estate 02 reg had same problem garage changed a few electric units that needed it it flys now get it done and you will see the difference hope this helps
loss of power, check air filter, fuel filter, and plugs.
the timing is electronic, so nothing goes wrong there.
chuggy implies its not running on all four cylinders. so, its either plugs/ Ht Leads, or its the head gasket, evidenced by oil in the water, smeggy white frothy gunk in the rocker cover.
run your finger up the end of the exhaust pipe. it should be clean and dry. black wet soot inicates either oil rings, or mixture is all messed up, (its dumping unburned fuel) taste the oil, (just a touch on your tongue) it should taste of oil. petrol indicates the rings have gone, and where the loss of power is.
but to be honest, its 6 years old, itll be something relatively simple. plugs and filters.
If its a 16v petrol. then your problem is the coils these sit on top of the spark plugs and are notorious for giving trouble.pull of the grey plastic cover on top off the engine..below an aluminium cover at the front is the fuel rail which has 4 electrical connections with the engine running pull these off one at a time if you pull one off and the engine chugs even more then that ones good your looking for one that makes no difference when you plug it out ie its already dead causing your problem..these electrical connections are in line with each cylinder so its easy to know which corresponds with which..to remove a coil you need a small socket set the bolts a ten then just pull it up.
