How do I test my car alarm?

How do I test the alarm on my Vauxhall Astra 1.7dti estate?
Have tried locking car up leaving a window open and waving my hands inside car (As suggested by Vauxhall) but nothing happens.
Is there anyway I can test the alarm to see if it is functional?
It appears when I set it that it's all on but I am not 100% certain.

Aside from putting a brick through the driver's window, just sit in the car and set the alarm with your key-fob. Wait for about 30 seconds (I think there's a delay between the time you activate the alarm and when the sensors activate - maybe a blinking red light will indicate this) and then just proceed to start the car as normal. If the alarm doesn't go off, it's either out of action or faulty.
bump into the car with your bum - i owuld have thoguht the vibration would set it off.
slap your hand on the windscreen, they often put sensors there
Set the alarm, then shake the car.

Jump on the bumper, or slap the fender.

Try locking the doors, setting the alarm, then unlocking the door with the key.

Works on some American and Japanese cars.

Cheers.
Leave a brand new lap top, phone and wads of money on back seat and leave in a rough area. onlly joking take it Vauxhall or a local car stereo/ alarm fitter.
Lock your car and then try and break in. A screwdiver to the lock was what was used on my car!
Throw a brick through the window. If the alarm goes off then all is well after a window replacement. If the alarm does not go off then you have bigger problems.
Get a friend to try and nick it. If it's gone in the morning, you'll know it didn't work!
break the rear passanger window, so when you hotwire it the wind from the broken window dosn't get on your nerves when you drive at 120mph down the motorway.

If you get that far, your alarm dosn't work.
You can try leaving it unattended with the window ajar on my estate:

I'm sure there are a few guys on here who would be more than happy to test the alarm, steering lock, ignition, engine, brakes, tires, petrol consumption, speed etc for you: no problem!
try this and see:keep your car locked alarm on then give a strong hit on a tyre
Vauxhall Alarms have a couple of ways of being tested.

If the Astra is like an Omega.

The button on the dash (for disabling the internal sensors) has a RED LED on it. When you set the alarm with the keyfob it will flash - it it flashes quickly there is a fault somewhere in the system.

The test it, pop open the bonnet. Hold down the alarm switch that senses the bonnet being open. Set the alarm - wait 30+ seconds and release the button. If the alarm freaks out - it works. If not it's dead.

Vauxhall factory alarm DO NOT have impact sensors, so knocking or banging bits of the car will do nothing!
break into your car i think that should do the trick seeing as i cant really think of any other way to do it
kick the tyres.i use to have an astra and thats what i done and the alarm went off
