How much will me audi a3 decrease in power iff i drill out the air box and will it sound better?

Answers:
Audi spent millions of marks developing your engine, why bodge a hole in the airbox?

short term effects will include a drop in performance, increased fuel consumption, increased exhaust emissions

Long term effects could include overheating, warping of the head, piston slap.

Do you really want to do this?
why would u want to ruin a perfectly good car by doing that
Buy a K&N performance intake And get a Borla exhaust system the only way to go more economy power and good sound. Check the AUDI car club web site for suggestions before changing anything buy once avoid mistakes.
You will be sucking in warm air from the engine compartment if you do that. That is not good.

If you look at you intake, you will see it goes up to the front of the car to breath cool air.

Leave it alone. If you want it to sound better, put some money into a performance exhaust system.
I HEAR YA BIG MAN!!

My mate did a similar thing with his 1993 Audi 80 Coupe. Make sure you drill the holes in the airbox BEFORE the filter. You will not notice a drop in power, but an increase in power - as you are improving the air flow into the engine. Said 80 Coupe made a fantastic noise (induction roar is WAY better than a farting exhaust) and was noticably quicker too.

I did exactly the same with my 1994 Hond Accord Aerodeck. 5* 36mm holes (biggest I had in my drill set) and now I find that when I hit 5200rpm there's a noticable surge in power. Plus it sounds the nuts! How many 12yr old automatic estate cars do you know that will hit 60 in 10.5 seconds?

Never mind the warmer air from the engine compartment, it hasn't bothered me any.
Also, it hasn't affected the emissions either. If anything because it's breathing freer on idle they are better.

Be warned about increased fuel consumption though. Not so much through the increased air, but increased accelerator pressure cos it sounds so good!!

Do it dude!

p.s. tried a similar thing with the gf's Renault Clio = more fun
tried a similar thing with sister's Toyota Corolla = superb accelaration in 1st and 2nd!

BIG grins all round!
It wouldn't be good to drill holes in the airbox trust me! If u want better sound then put on an exhaust system.
if you drill out the air box then it will get faster as more air is beinng sucked in this is what i used to do with the motor bikes and things and no it wont sound differnt and itll use more fuel!!
it will lose power when its moving slow or stuck in traffic because it will be getting hot air. how good it sounds is subjective. do you like the way honda civics that belong to 16year olds sound?
