I'm looking for power, looks and "cool" but it has to be reliable too - Do I buy a used Mazda RX-8
Answers:
I have a 2006 RX-8 GT. 10000km in, fuel economy getting better but it is respectable for a sports car. It only uses premium fuel though, I was told dont even try regular or you will wreck it. Oil consumption isnt bad, it all depends on how you drive it. I was told to check it every second gas fill, and add as necessary. Normally, I have to add less than a quarter litre, or nothing.
I hear bad things about the 2004, although I am told you shouldnt buy a car the 1st time it comes out, gotta work out the bugs in the first year I guess.
I have nothing bad to say about it, other than with winter coming i am a little scared to drive it. Need winter tires for sure.
I assume 12000 pounds is about $6000, and there is no way you will find an RX-8 for this?. unless it needs a rebuild, or its in pieces. rebuilding a rotary is tedious and very expensive, over double a normal combustion engine.
Good luck with your car search.. Zoom zoom!
buy it it sounds nice and mazdas are reliable
get one from a dealer
Great car but guzzles the gas.!
if u want performance get a honda or vw mazda had the rotery engine and it was always a dealer car to get fixed
the RX-8 is a nice car, but the rotary engine it uses dosn't last very long
when the seals wear out the cost to replace them is so high you could just buy a new car for the same price
Mazda is the only import I'd buy. Especially an RX-8. Grab it. People I know who have one love it. But it is expensive to repair. And who the hell said Honda had performance? Ha, thats a joke.
The rotary engine in the RX8 is a lot better than the one used in the RX7. It is however still a thristy car and I have heard of reliabillity issues in the earlier ones (which a £12,000 car will be)
If it was my money I'd buy a Subaru Impreza, although it is not really a cool car. However it should be reliable and if you go for an STI you will have so much fun you won't care what other people think.
The bmw 330 Coupe is also a fine car with 231bhp, a great chassis and I like the looks. Again, not everyones idea of cool though.
I LOVE MY RX 8, shes got it all style, class, power house motor, kicks ***, i own the GT . gas whats that if you have a RX she gets about 20 miles to gal. depending on how hard i ride 3rd. that car will break any spedlimit around here in 2nd 0-65 like in no time the more she runs the faster she gets.bose kicks it.oil yeah but dude she puts out, leather seats sweet, drive one. i own the only one around for a few towns.. she get looks . and i dont ride down the street sayiong "h there goes my car" like the new fords and Z's go MAZDA all the way
if you want power, then you should consider something other than the rx-8.anybody that thinks it has lots of power must have previously owned, well, i don't know, but the rx-8 is not powerful.it's torque is horrible, it's horsepower is low, and unless they've added a bunch of parts to the market since last time i looked, the rx-8 really doesn't have alot of parts you can add to boost the power (especially the torque).
the style is great, i love the car, and i even considered buying one, but i went for a modified rx-7 instead.and there's people that think it's a new car every once in awhile.
the rotary engine may not get what you want as far as miles per gallon, but it doesn't waste as much fuel as a typical cylinder engine does.if that makes any sense.
anyway, if you want performance, i say go for the subaru wrx sti like that one person said.or maybe a bmw m3.not an rx-8
