How easy is it to fly planes nowadays.Could even I do it?

Imagine I am trapped on a far away island with 50 other ppl who would die if I didn't fly the plane back to civilisation.I have a modern plane and a hand book! What are the chances of getting back in one piece? And what would you do?

Piece of pi*s!
Aviation is a relative complex profession that requires alot of intense field and classroom training.

Unless you know what you are doing, I would advise against it unless your life depended upon it. or look at it this way. If you want to live and there is a plane there for the taking- your chances of crashing the plane and dying without trying to get away in the plane are about 50/50.
If both pilot an co pilot died aboard a modern commercial plane. Simple answer is they wouldnt need you at all, as the planes can land themselves these days and take off, all by fly by wire.

Pilots are not really required, but how many people would trust there lives to computer to fly them, so they keep the pilots
uh? NO!! hey one name what are you on? The B777 is the only aircraft that I'm aware of with that level of technology there may be others I'm not certain. But I know that there are many other aircraft that in fact do not have the ability to fly them selves .
Swim, it sounds safer
I doubt you could load the baggage!

onename above is as stupid as you are..
Fly one, yes. land one, no!
actually your chances of getting back are pretty good..however landing is another story. I have taken lessons.as long as you can figure out that while on the ground you steer with your feet.push left pedal to go left, etc. and, if you should need them, the brakes are in the "toe" of the L/R pedals, and that the left "TOE" only brakes the left main wheel and the right.the right.. (small planes have no brakes in nose wheel).. get to the speed required for take off (in the manual. don't try to bring it up too soon or you will stall..) the plane will just about take off by itself. again. landing is the problem. (back to the manual to find landing speed) keep speed down..then flaps. make sure plane is pointed where you want to land.reduce power.do not try to PUSH the airplane down. at this point you want to be trying to keep it in the air (i know it sounds odd) when the plane "will not fly anymore" and speed is very low.your stall indicator should be screaming.then tou pull WAY BACK on the wheel.. this is called flairing. this, if done correctly and at the right time will bring the nose of the plane up and set it gently (hopefully) on it's rear wheels. as ground speed decreases the nose wheel will set down.. IMPORTANT! at this time REMEMBER you steer on the ground with your feet! and the brakes are at the toes. of course this is fundamental only. I could not possible write here everything about flying. but it would get you up and flying, and "any landing you can walk away from is a good one".. I thank the Raytheon Employees Flying Club for my lessons and experience.
As a Private Pilot i can tell you it would be almost impossible for you to take off and land a plane without prior training.
Don't bother. Hope you like coconut.
You could probably take off and control it ti a basic level, But without pilot's training, you would very quickly get lost, or loose control of the aircraft. The basics are simple, but the complexities are much more important. If, somehow, you managed to calculate wind vectors etc, and managed to get to civilization, I doubt you would be able to land the plane succesfully.
Genghis pretty much tells it as it is. Some aircraft are obviously more complex to operate than others (e.g. multi-jet engines compared to single prop) but I would happily put money on you not even being able to start the aircraft up without prior training.

And by the way, a high proportion of all modern jet airliners are fitted with Auto-land functionality - not just the shiny new ones like the 777 / A380!
I just earned my CRJ-200 type rating it was perhaps one of the most difficult things that I have done you might be able to take off and crash land in something simpler like a Cessna 172 if the weather was good but your average airline transport aircraft is so complicated that the average person would be completely lost yes there is a lot of automation but you have to know how to use it and know what to if it doesn't work. The pilots work load is extremely high especially during critical phases of the flight like take off and landing. So to answer your question there is no way you would be able to fly a jet just by reading the manual.
If you can drive a car, you can fly a plane. Hell, if I give you a copy of Microsoft Filght Sim, a joystick and a week of practice you could fly. The basics are the same as it was in days of the Wright Bros. A lot faster, bigger, and complex, but the basics are still in place. People have been on planes with dead pilots & talked down by air controlers in one peice. So, yes it can be done.
