How much movement should there be on a trackrod end ball joint?

Should I be able to rotate/ move it by hand or is it knackered if I can do that? It wont move up and down, just round and around if ya catch my drift!

Answers:
the ball joint should be stiff to move, it should move in a circular way but not up and down if it does its shot
With both front wheels of the ground, you should be able to move the wheel to and fro with the wheel on the other side moving at the same time.

There should be no slack or take up. If there is, then the pin that drops into the hub, held by a castlenated nut and split pin, is either loose or it is worn and will need replacing. After which, the tracking will need to be reset.
the ball should be free to spin in the joint but not move up, down or sideways AT ALL.
there should be no movement. if u have any change it
