Which model alfa romeo do I buy?

Answers:
That's a bit of a wide-open question really. What are your needs in a car? Are you looking to buy new or second hand?

I'm not too up on their new cars, but I've had a good old look at some second hand ones, plus one of my mates is a big fan of the 155 (he has 3!)

I would go for a second hand 156 in any form. They are all good, even the 1.6L engine has a decent pull on it and they all handle like they are on rails! I'd perefer the 2.0 though, especially with the "flappy-paddle" Selespeed gearbox - pretend you're a formula 1 driver! The Sportwagon (estate-ish) model is great if you like humping bulky stuff around. They look better too. Look to paying £3,000-£6,000 for anything from an S reg to 51 plate!

Cheap as chips to buy, but servicing can be expensive. Avoid cars coming up to their cambelt service (40,000 miles) and get any work done by an Alfa Specialist (dealers are too pricey - they have shiny showrooms to keep up) as they know and love the cars they will be working on.

Just seen the bit about parts - not too expensive if you know where to get them. Look around on the web - again forums and owners clubs can be helpful. Did you know Alfa are owned by Fiat? Who also own Ferrari. Well, a lot of parts on older Alfas can be interchanged with Fiat ones, thus saving you a veritable fortune!
NONE unless you are a top notch mechanic or are dating or married to one.Alfa Romeo cars a super unreliable cars that need endless adjustments and maintenance and shops that repair them get top money labor rates average $100.00 a HOUR or HIGHER plus most major repair parts have to be shipped over from Italy at your expense.
Any of the newer ones are OK, as he said above stay well clear of older ones as they are that bad.
none ! parts too expensive and hard to get
If you've got loads of money buy one of the 8C's they're about to start making.
They're only going to make 500 of them, they'll have the Maserati v8 engine, and look like sex on wheels, mmmm 8C
You must try the Brera, it looks great, drives great and is actually reliable!! Alfa's aren't as bad as people make out any more. they were pretty terrible in the 80's but they're no worse than any other cars today. They are certainly more reliable than the modern Volvo, the former go-forever car. So long as you go for a post 96 one you have a fantastic choice of car. Pre-96 ones can save you a fortune at the gym though, with all they walking they convince you to do so even they have they're blessings!
With alfa's you have to buy a fairly new one. You may get some reliability issues but not as many with a newer model. The point that people miss with alfa's is that they are bought more for the looks and charisma they have. it's a little bit irrational really!

I have a 2004 Alfa 156 and I love it. If you want a small car then it has to be 147. If you want an average family sized then 159 (156 if second hand). Executive class is probably still the 166 although not sure if they still make them new (I am not such a big fan of these but Jeremy Clarkson rates it as one of the finest mechanical designs of all time apparently!). If you fancy something a little bit different and sporty then it has to be the GT or Brera.

Little tip - try Adrian Flux for insurance they usually give good prices on alfa's.
