THere are 2 real good companies. Amica Ins is cheap and A plus rated financially and by their customers for claims handling. Also USAA ins. but they usually sell to military and dependants.
Tesco are good
Churchill's
supermarket.com..put in all your details, they will do a search on all insurance companies and cheapest will always be at the top of the list
Tescos are the best by far. We have saved £500 on our car(first car too). I will always recommend tescos. Good luck with your search.
