Car ignition - have spare 1, not sure if will work with existing key?

can i take the cylinder somewhere (peugeot?) and get the correct key from them, or do I need to buy a new cylinder and key together, and will this affect my alarm/immobiliser at all? I think the lock's coded will that make a difference?

Answers:
If you have a dealership close, call or go in, they may be able to recode your existing cylinder. If your alarm is factory and the theft deterant is directly wired to the ign switch, a reprogram may be necessary. If the alarm is aftermarket, you should have no problems.
lock smith can do it if its possible
Hi, most cars from about 1995 onwards have a small microchip in the key which is electronically coded to that car. I know if you have the correct key you can get a clone made from various locksmiths for £25.00. You need the cars code though or the original key. main deals are normally too expensive.
