I have a 1996 Mazda 626 1.8i GXi and I was thinking about setting the tappits / valve clearences..?
Answers:
the valve clearances cannot be set as they are hydraulic tappets the tappets themselves may need changing if the engine is high mileage over 100000 miles?
get valve grinding paste and a grinding thing from halfords. you put the paste on the tappits and use the grinder like you were trying to light o fire by rotating a stick.
well first off take it to a technician and they can tell diagnose the problem and then they will tell you and then if you want to do it your self you can then you will need to get the valve specs via the internet probly then tighten lossen as needed as for the injector theory it could be but if it is a loud tapping it could be your valves when did it start , has it always been like this , when was the last time you changed your oil, or cleaned you injectors these are some questions you need to ask yourself
The valve clearances are controlled hydrualically & are not adjustable.Check the correct grade of oil has been used as to low a viscosity can cause niosy tappits. If correct hydraulic buckets will need replaced.
