Difference between induction kit and air filter?for 10pts?

Which one gives a nicer sound to the car?and what does each one do?thanks

Answers:
The primary function of an Induction Kit is to clean the air before it enters the engine, but also to provide better air flow to improve the engines power output. The power output of an engine is proportional to the volume of air it can ingest at any given time, assuming that the fuelling is also set up correctly. The most minute restriction in the air induction system will cause an engine's optimum power output to drop. Maintaining optimum, unrestricted air flow becomes a problem when the air must pass through a filter element. There are many different designs of filters on the market, and each manufacturer will make claims that their design is more effective than their competitors. Generally, the greater the air flow restriction, the greater the power loss. Therefore, the ultimate acheivement is to choose as filter that will flow as much air as possible, witthout sacrificing filtration efficiency.
Neither will make the car sound any better because it all happens on the intake side or the engine, and exhaust (sound) is on the "out" side of the engine.
Both will clean the air of unwanted particulares before allowing the air into the engine, but a stock filter will restrict the air more than a free flow air filter.
induction means that you are ramming the air into the air/fuel mixing device..more air, the better the fuel will combust. the air MUST pass through a filter..you don't want dirt in there. an air filter is just a filter, whose houseing is not designed to ram (scoop) the air at high speeds. neither will give better sound to the car, only performance.

yes thay can be added to any car.
The "induction kit" refers to an air box or tube arrangement designed to draw cool, dense air into the air filter and engine. This cool air improves engine performance by increasing the amount of oxygen in the mixture. The air filters are usually low restriction, high efficiency units that allow more clean air in. The best possible would be both setups, cool clean air with lower restriction higher flow. Neither are designed for sound, although more noticeable intake noise is possible.
Kits are available for most late model cars.
You're kidding right? You obviously don't know what you're talking about. What kind of induction kit? A blower, turbo,or just a cold air kit? Either one would benefit from a high flow air filter. Besides a whine from a roots type blower or hiss from a turbo you will not get a noticeable change in the cars sound (that comes from the exhaust). The answer below mine is made by a moron!
Hi, the difference between an induction kit and an air filter is an induction kit increases horse power or decrease horse power and an air filter just cleans the air, the induction kit sound louder whilst the air filter dosent really make much noise it stop the rubbish getting into the carb, You can put an induction kit on any car, its a knN filter dosent need changing, same as an air filter but gives a bigger raw. Worth getting a induction kit.
Air filter - required on any car you plan to start.
Induction (forced induction) - compressed air is forced into the intake to increase performance and efficiency of the engine.

HOWEVER - If you are looking at the K&N filter website, then what they call an induction kit is just simply another filter kit, but this one is developed mainly for European cars.

A K&N style filter (even an off-brand is good), will add 2-7 horsepower to any car 99% of the time - depending on engine size, efficiency of original intake system, etc. It will also help it "breathe" a lot easier, thereby increasing efficiency (and usually gas mileage).

My guess is that since you had to ask, that you are not looking for a true induction, or turbo.
