Public Transport: does it suck? do you take it?

Everyone seems to aspire to car ownership, despite the fact that you can often be stuck for ages in traffic jams. Public transport appears to be stigmatised and just for those who can't afford a car. It is far more environmentally friendly and - in many cities - quicker.

What do you think about taking the bus/metro/tram?

Answers:
I think that for cities like New York and London, MTA are awesome, but in cities where urban sprawling takes places such as Los Angeles or Miami. its impossible.. I live in South Florida and i can't walk a block because of the heat, plus these cities were made for you to have a car.. in many places there isnt even side walks. So i would say Yes, Public transportation is good in certain places but not all.
It sucks yet I still take it.
i love taking public transportation b/c i get to see so many different types of people from all walks of life every day. plus, i get more exercise from having to switch buses or trains.
Eurgh they are full of poor people
I take the bus all the time. It's affordable, cheaper than a car, I can get just about anywhere, and I'm helping the enviroment.

Cars are just a fancy status symbol.
I am not a public transportation person unless its an emergency. I use a car instead and if no car is available to me I just hold off until one is.
no it sucks, why would i want to get on a bus with loads of nasty stinky people who look like they'd mug me in a second, abusive Wh0res, druggy losers chavs etc are everywhere on public transport, i don't allow my wife to get the bus because of it. maybe if we lived in a nicer society it wouldn't be a problem but we do so its like slumming it, meeting the scum
they wont let me drive anymore ,, I'm going blind ,, so i would take public transportation if they had any here
in the southeast of England, public transport is generally cramped, expensive, unreliable and slow. Not to mention the added risk of terrorist attacks now, I don't know why people bother.

I'm sticking with my R1
Where i live the Public Transport system is very good, reliable, clean and reasonably cheap. :-)
And the drivers (man/woman) are always very smartly dressed and polite.
Public transportation is a good choice. It helps the environment and is cheaper. It's a cleaner solution than driving your own car and it costs less.
Public transport I find is always late and never on time
i enjoy taking public transpo, as long as its not jampacked.. i see different kinds of people, and i've actually bumped to a few old friends..its fun..
When I lived in Chicago I prefered using the CTA. I did not have to find a parking space and it was quicker. In Minneapolis I used the bus system, and I also bought a bicycle. Minneapolis did not have the good system of public transportation that Chicago did. They now have a train but that is just a long a certain line. I used the MTA in Boston and I liked that. I did not bike in either Boston or Chicago. But in the Twin cities it was a good way to get around and always easy to find parking.
It depends on where you live. If you have a bus stop just down the street it MIGHT be okay. But I live way too far from any form of public transport and the only time I ever used it is when I had jury duty downtown and I drove to the trolley station (that has plenty of FREE parking) and took the trolley downtown (that has NO PARKING).
i can't drive so i have to resort to public transport. even though it sucks. i try to avoid it though i take the bus as its cheaper, even though i hate it. ideally though i'd rather get on a bike and ride.
walking is okay but walking a couple of miles hurts my feet like hell
ye it well sucks where i live they gave all da money 2 da old ppl so now its gunna cost me £1.50 to go 3 miles i dont know if thats gd or what but it sounds quite expensive and y da old ppl i mean dey r old (no offence or anyfing)
You are absolutely correct. Public transport is far more quicker than the car. Here in Greece, lots of people use the bus, more of them the metro and the tram. The gasoline is now very expensive so it's cheaper to take a taxi/metro etc. I love cars, so I travel in the city with public transport and out of it with my car.
The last time i took a bus was when my son was 2 ( he's 13 now ) and only because it was cold and i didn't want him to freeze . I do not get on a bus to go anywhere , not because I'm a snob , just hate them , they're uncomfortable and demeaning , and the lack of privacy on a bus is terrible , I would walk in the rain rather than take a bus , plus the cost of bus fares now is only marginally cheaper than driving so what's the point . If my car breaks down or i get stuck anywhere within a hours walk then I'll walk home . And as for the environment have you seen the smoke that comes out of a bus ..
I get the public transport regularly, not because we do not have a car (we have one) it is a lot less hassle to park, and it is quite cheap. Using the public transport encourages you to talk to people, I have made a lot of friends just by using public transport. Besides the social aspect it is kinder to the environment because approximately there are 51 cars less on the road, if you think about the emission's that has been reduced 51 times. People do not take public transport because they do not know how to commute.
FOR EXAMPLE going to catch a bus to get into town for 1.05pm you would have to get the 12.50 bus which would get into town for 1.03pm. no use leaving home to get the bus if has gone.
With Public Transport you have no traffic jams, no city center parking problems, and it's often cheaper than going by car :-)
