How do i find out what the paint code is from the VIN number on my 1998 vw passat?

i know the colour code is there somewhere, but which one ?

Paint Codes are easily found on the label attatched to Drivers Door where the Lock and Catch meet under the catch is a label that shows Tire Pressure and Paint Codes and such.
Or look at a Haynes/Chiltoins maunual, they give a breakdown of the VIN#s and what they apply to.
